Abdominal Opening and Closure Trainer (60305)

For the training of :

laparotomy
laparoscopy
wound closure.

A strong frame carries a pad which simulates the central line of the abdominal wall. Pushing hard against the pad from below is an inflated balloon. The pad contains the layers of skin, fat, linea alba and peritoneum.

During a procedure of laparotomy the trainee opens the abdominal wall through the various layers showing that the balloon is not damaged in the process.

Laparotomy:
Both Hassan technique and the Verres needle technique can be carried out. Suturing is possible at different levels - fascial, subdermial and final closure.

Bowel for Anastomosis

Simulation of human bowel of varying size lumen which are soft, strong and very life-like are an essential part of basic surgical skills training. The models are constructed entirely from non-biological materials; the inner mucosal layer is lightly bonded to the outer serosa muscular layer to simulate the feel and behaviour of real tissues.

With these models extensive practice of anastomotic technique using sutures and stapling instruments is now possible in a clean environment. Each layer of the bowel is sufficiently strong to hold sutures and the whole range of end and cross stapling techniques.

Anastomosis Jig:
The bowel is mounted on the unique Anastomosis Jig (50173) which can be free standing or mounted on the MAT Trainer This jig will reduce or extend in length in order to accommodate varying lengths of bowel. Following the anastomosis procedure, patency testing for quality can be carried out.

Single Layer Bowel:
For simpler procedures single layer bowel is provided. The 8 inch length is available in various widths. Designed for use in the 50173 anastomosis Jig.

This material is permanently on hand and available for training whenever it is needed.
